IRCHA Jamboree 2009

August 12 to16 2009, the 2009 IRCHA Heli Jamboree was held at the Academy of Model Aeronautics National Flying Site in Muncie, IN. This year several of the world’s best competitors from the 2009 World FAI Championships (held the week before the Jamboree), stayed over an extra week to participate at the Jamboree, giving an international flavor to the 2009 event.

This year, Model Airplane News editor Gerry Yarrish and RC Car Action editor Kevin Hetmanski traveled to Muncie to cover the action and excitement at the IRCHA Jamboree. With a total of over 950 registered pilots and some 15 flying areas spread out at the AMA flying facility, this event is an overwhelming success where modelers, pilots, organizations and industry reps and vendors come together to celebrate of all things heli! Be sure to check out the December 2009 issue of Model Airplane News to learn more about this crazy exciting helicopter-only event—the IRCHA Jamboree will rock your socks off!

IRCHA History
The International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association represents helicopter pilots from all aspects of the hobby. Their members actively participate in 3D Aerobatics, Scale, Competition, and Sport Flying.

Established by pilots, for pilots, the IRCHA organization promote the continued growth of RC helicopters through education, service, and special events. Representing a dynamic and constantly evolving segment of the AMA, IRCHA works continually to foster the growth and acceptance of RC helicopters.

IRCHA was created in 1989 by Don Chapman as the representative body for RC helicopter pilots. The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) recognizes one organization as the Special Interest Group (SIG) for each particular segment of the hobby. The International Radio Controlled Helicopter Association (IRCHA) is the official SIG for helicopters. It was at this time an organization representing helicopter pilots needed to be created to ensure each of those pilots was represented to the AMA. Throughout its inception, IRCHA has continued to represent helicopter pilots in all aspects of the hobby. It supports competition pilots during the U.S. Nationals and regularly is involved in AMA committees and meetings.
