THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE familiar with the RC term “giant scale” probably accept it to mean models (monoplanes) that have wingspans of greater than 80 inches and biplanes with more than 60-inch spans. These are the guidelines established by the International Miniature Aircraft Association (IMAA), hence the well-known expression “IMAA legal.” When the guidelines were first established, an 80-inch airplane was really, really big when compared to the .60 powered, 60- to 65-inch span models of the day. Today, 60-inch planes are the norm for sport and sportscale flying.
