Back from vacation – LiPo care

I spent the last few weeks in San Fran visiting my son and granddaughter – who just turned one yesterday. As you can imagine, she is the apple of my eye, and so close to walking. I was so hoping she would walk while I was there – but no such luck. But any day now.

When I came home it was time to take care of my batteries again – and I hope you are doing the same. I keep a file on my computer with each helicopter/li-po battery I have, when it was charged and placed in storage. I have talked to several battery experts on the subject, and the best procedure is to fully charge your battery, then bring it down to a storage charge before leaving it for more than about two weeks. Many chargers have this storage feature built in as part of their options for charge/discharge.  I do this on the first of every month for those batteries I have not used. I think it’s also a good idea to cycle the battery every few months – with a complete discharge, then a charge and then bring it down to the storage voltage.

The whole idea is to keep the batteries in good working order so they will be ready to fly when you are.  I have a lot of other reasons to have mishaps – spell that crashes – with my helicopters. I don’t need a bad battery to be one of them. I hope this helps your batteries as well. If you have a different technique, please let me know what it is.
