Special delivery: tiny drone takes off from a mailbox “hangar”

Nov 30, 2011 9 Comments by

OK; this is officially on my Christmas wish list. Meet ScanCam200, a tiny quadrotor drone that’s inside this ordinary looking mailbox and can send live video feed to its remote operation center. Mission complete, it returns to its mailbox hangar, which also functions as a docking station with a charger. Tell me if you can watch it launch without smiling!

Would like to see it land on its pad.

  2. Chick says:

can it deliver the mail to the house

Debra, Have you flown a Vectron? It was a helicopter simulator that flew spinning around a cable that carried signals to its processor.
I would imagine that landing this one would be pretty much the same as landing a Vectron on a small platform outdoors. Or any gyro stabllized really small heli.
Before I would try landing back on the pad, I would add saddle hooks to catch the skids under and pratice in the garage.

I haven’t. I also wonder if the ScanCam is flown by person or if it uses a computer program to monitor premises …

  4. Jim says:

Where can I get one? Just the quad, I don’t need the mailbox.
