Timing and ESCs, can you get more power?

Many racers like to use the timing program on ESCs to extract that extra bit of power from their motors.  Does this really work?  We asked Lee Estingoy from Castle Creations if it is possible to extract more from your motors by adjusting the timing.  Here is what he had to say.

    For most people, adjusting the timing is just a good way to burn up a motor or ESC. If you don’t know exactly what you are doing and/or skip any of the testing needed when doing custom timing it can get very expensive very fast.
