Easy Rivets from Cal-Grafx

Feb 24, 2014 5 Comments by

At the recent WRAM Show, I had the opportunity to talk to Jim at Cal-Grafx, who is developing a kit for applying glue drop rivets to any scale plane using a vinyl strip with precisely cut and spaced holes. You lay the strip onto your primed surface, apply a special riveting water-soluble¬†”glue,” wait 90 seconds to 2 minutes so the “glue” adheres to your model’s surface, then carefully remove the strip and voila!–perfectly spaced rivets. Check out this new twist on an old technique!IMG_0389

Lines of raised rivet heads in minutes, perfectly spaced and in straight lines.

Apply the adhesive to the holes in the vinyl stripe wait 90 seconds and lift.

Once painted over, they look great.

No careful application required. Just glob on the glue and cover the entire hole. Glue applicator included.

Beats the heck out of any other method I can think of. After apply a lot of them the old way I notice that when I step back they are not as straight or even as I though. This will definitely make this chore go a lot quicker and get my birds finished faster too! I will definitely invest in this product! I have used Cal-Grafx in the past and have always been pleased with the results.
