FPV Heron Crash

FPV Heron Crash

Even remotely piloted vehicles can have a bad day at the field. In this YouTube video posted by German tabloid The Bild, an Australian RQ 7 Heron offers a first person view of a 2010 taxi accident with a C-130 in Afghanistan.  According to Bild a junior officer put the Heron into auto start and then was unable to stop it.  The incident occurred at Mazar-i-Sharif on March 17, 2010.

  1. Thats no Herc – I hope the young Officer had STATE-FARM air/auto insurance?

  2. This would have been really informative if we would have been given some idea as to what we were looking at. i.e. how much trouble would it have been to define the the information readouts on the screen? etc. As it is, it is the exercise is pretty much meaningless.

    1. Let’s see… GS, HDG, and Alt… Hmmm maybe Ground Speed, Heading, and Altitude?

  3. Just blame the North Koreans… They hacked it… It would be believable. Haha!

  4. Don’t they use chocks?…

  5. This has nothing to do with the Australians. We operate in Kandahar. This was all a German outfit.
