Gigantic 17-foot RC Dambuster!

Gigantic 17-foot RC Dambuster!

One thing is for sure, the UK has a rich and exciting aviation history especially when it comes to WW2. One of the most famous missions flown by the RAF involved the 4-engine Avro Lancasters that flew Dam Busting missions in Germany. It is no wonder that RC builders and pilots reproduce giant scale RC Dam busters of their own.

This video is courtesy of tbobborap1 and it highlights MWMwarbirds, a family run team which goes around the UK putting on RC flight demos and displays for the public. The team  first started with a Ziroli B-25 Mitchell powered by twin 3W 42cc closely followed by a Ziroli corsair powered by a 3W 60cc.

They then joined the TJD display team based in Dartford, Kent and found our selves travelling around the country putting on even more  public displays of historic RC aviation  history. The most impressive show plane is their 17-ft. Avro Lancaster which is powered by four 38cc Zenoah G-38s.

  1. NICE TO SEE A WAR-PLANE LIKE THAT; ALMOST SCALE, RIGHT DONE TO THE TAIL GUNNER. GOOD JOB GUY’ KEEP UP THE AVRO SPIRIT!

  2. Very impressive, compliments for the craftmenship!

  3. Great model, fantastic achievement! But the article is incorrect, this is not a ‘dambuster’.

  4. I was wondering how they would get four engines started in a reasonable amount of time but now I know. I have a feeling that the first flight on the video was actually their second flight. (Much less engine adjustment).
If I ever build a scale plane so large and expensive with so much time invested, the only time I would fly it that low would be while landing it. Congratulations to all involved for an impressive bit of engineering, building and flying.

  5. Your Lancaster is not a Dam Buster. It is a normal Lanc, with full bomb bays, unmodified to take the bouncing bomb. Why don’t you change your story? The Lanc was (is) a remarkable airplane, even without the Barnes Wallis mod.

  6. Now he just needs two spotlights criss-crossing underneath it…

  7. A great display of a scale Lancaster bomber, but it is not the dambuster version. The dambuster was specially modified and included the removal of the mid-upper turret, which is clearly visible in the video. My late father-in-law was an aerial gunner on Lancasters during WW2.

  8. some chaps built one about that size in the 1960 6 or early 70 s it was on Granada reports judy finnagan was doing the story it was in Glossop it flew and the same blokes did a wheel barrow and that flew as well

  9. Astronomical Gerry well done
