Sneak Peek: Ferocious FW-190

Model Airplane News - RC Airplane News | Sneak Peek: Ferocious FW-190

While attending the recent all electric NEAT Fair in Downsville, NY, I met up with good RC buddy Dan Landis who was showing off his piloting skills with a new warbird! The new Top Flite FW-190 “Butcher Bird” is a Gold Edition giant scale ARF and it is designed for 50cc size gas engines. Dan modified a stock plane and converted it to E-power for the NEAT Fair. His new Luftwaffe fighter is powered with a Rimfire 65cc Motor up front, 12s 5300 LiPo packs, and is controlled with the Futaba gear using the S.Bus system on the wing allowing for just one connector between the fuselage and wing for all the servos, and another  connector for the custom Robart retracts. The gear are designed specifically for the FW-190 and work great! Watch out Radio Control Show on Friday for my complete video interview with flight footage.

  1. electrics are very reliable but i like to hear the music prodused by engine!! it is so sweet!!

  2. Wow. Cant wait for Fridays show to see the video of its flight!!

  3. Just remember sound does not scale well.
More manufacturers should be looking into providing “E” conversions of their larger models.

  4. Saw this fly 4 times at NEAT. Dan is a great pilot, plane flew spectacular. Low speed with the split flaps was amazing. Landings were textbook rollout

  5. Without the sound of the “real” engine bawling it just isn’t a plane to me. Without a gas engine the realism and excitement is just lost to me personally, seems more like a childs toy. I just can’t get into electric planes.

  6. As a life long heavy vehicle technician, I appreciate the electric powered planes even more. No further risk to the hearing.
Dan’s plane is an excellent scale model, with a great “E” conversion carried out on it.
No “flame outs” no oil residue, no starter required, no flammable fluids, etc.
    Electric power is GREAT!

  7. All the model size gas engines with the exception of the BIG radials sound like an illegal alien’s leaf blower engine to me….. Hmmm, that’s what most of them are come to think of it…..

    1. I have been in this hobby for 36 years, and nothing substitute the sound of a gas engine….

  8. I have been in this hobby for 36 years, and nothing can substitute a sound of a gas engine. I tried electrics but, I don’t like them.

  9. NOT COMPLETELY SCALE WITHOUT THE SWASTIKA ON THE VERTICAL FIN.THEY ALL HAD THAT DURING WW2.

    1. Yup, I totally agree with you but remember that symbol is currently a sign of a hated time and regime in history and if this plane is marketed in Germany, it would violate their law banning that symbol. But it is a part of history and it is just a symbol. Fortunately for us in the United States, we can add that marking and make it more historically accurate. We might have to put up with the occassional remark from someone who misinterprets our use but that can be addressed on a one to one basis.

I just think people are just different now, too much into symbolism. Don’t believe me? Go back 2,000 years and the crucifix was a sign of a terrible means to put someone to death. The early Christians turned that sign of evil into a sign of faith and hope. Like I said earlier, it’s a symbol. The true good or evil rests not in the symbol but in the hearts of mankind. So for accuracy sake, I find no offense in placing a swasrtika on the German planes but what I do find offensive is some vandal placing them on a synagogue since that is a directed assault at a people and the sign of those who persecuted them.

  10. Yes I like radials. But it is a fantastic new airplane electric or not. I’d love to own and fly one.

The Swastika on the tail is a free speech issue. A few nations have free speech, most do not.

The swastika on the tail is historically accurate.

If I own an La 7 that does not make me a communist. But even if it did, don’t I have a right to believe as I wish? The U.S. constitutions says yes. So the people who denounce Jesus Christ have no right to force anyone to promote a lie. Who’s hurt by the hurt? Mostly, its the liars.

  11. Allow me to correct the second to the last sentence. It should read, Who’s hurt by the truth? The answer is, mostly the liars.

  12. John. Very well thought out response. Also very well articulated.

  13. THERE ARE SO MANY NEG. REMARKS ABOUT ELECTRIC FLITE OR GAS VS. ELECTRIC, MY QUESTION IS WHY? SOME ADULT LIVING PLACES DON’T ALLOW FLAMMABLE PRODUCTS AND NOISE IS OUT. A HOBBY AS FINE AS OURS SHOULD BRING US TOGETHER NOT APART !!!!

  14. We must be concious of others feelings by displaying symbols that bring back terrible memories—Wonder hoe the indians feel when they see an american flag

  15. Downsville, NY is not in France or Germany, right? So why does this otherwise-impressive plane lack the Nazi swastika?

  16. Regarding the absence of the swastika, free speech is not intended to protect benign, uncontroversial, or inoffensive ideas. Those ideas do not need protection. It is intended to protect – to foster – exactly those political ideas that are most offensive, most provocative, most designed to inspire others to act in the name of its viewpoints. – GG

  17. Our country was in this war but You can not forget history but that does not mean that hiding old symbols is wrong. Just keep the history correct!
