Pilot Projects: Custom Privateer [May 2012]

Custom Privateer: What’s Lew doing in the pool with his model? Check it for leaks, of course! Lew first started building this beauty in 1955, using the Berkley Kit based on Don McGovern’s design.  He completed it in 1975 and added 4-channel control along with an Enya 60 glow engine.  Unfortunately, the plane landed in a palm tree on its first flight (good thin Let kept the pieces!).  He recently converted it to electric power with a 35-48-850 Rimfire outrunner and writes, “I flew it from a good lake, without palm trees!”
