Pilot Projects: T-28 Trojan [September 2012]

T-28 Trojan: Jeff writes, “Sometimes the fun in our hobby is seeing how we can transition a simple ARF into something more interesting.”  He stripped his ParkZone T-28 completely down, filled all the dents and scratches and added Testor’s spray paint and new decals.  Then it was time to make struts for some HobbyZone floats.  He adds, “It was fun reading about how to set up an aircraft on floats.  I must have gotten it right because the airplane handled great on the water flew like a bird.”

  1. I just don’t understand people building Float Planes out of scale models, especially war birds that have never existed in the real world. I once saw a goof that actually wasted a perfectly good Top Flight P-51D by putting floats on it! Just nuts.Save it for the Piper Cubs and other high-wings, people!

    1. Put Floats On Any Thing You Freakin Well Want And
      HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      That’s All There Is TO IT !!!!
      LIVE AND HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!
      Go Back To bed Grouch!!!!!! (Webster P)

  2. I say “whatever floats your boat” man! Why the negativity towards someone having fun with the hobby? Is that not what its all about? Who cares if he took a DC-10 and added floats? He is having a good time and enjoying the hobby safely. I give him mad “props” for being creative and thrifty! keep it affordable, have fun, fly, and enjoy this great hobby. Bad attitudes need left out!!!

  3. Hey Webster P, why don’t we all dress alike, and eat the same food, and listen to the same music, and wear the same cologne, and drive the same kind of car (unmodified of course), etc, etc.
    Thank God the rest of the world doesn’t think like you. What a boring place it would be!
    I happen to think that T-28 on floats is awesome! I love kitbashing to see what I can create.

  4. Hey it’s his plane, he can do what he wants to it. I wouldnt do it, but it looks fine and as long as he enjoys it, that’s all that matters.

  5. The author did a great job modifying a plane to fly off water. No need for “scale” snobbery.

  6. Well at least it is a NAVY plane.

    Floats on a AIR FORCE plane just would’nt be right. ;-}
