Road to Top Gun — Stylish F-100D Super Sabre

From Johnson City, TN, Rod Snyder will be competing in both Team Class and Expert Class this year at Top Gun. His Team Class entry is a BVM F-100D Super Sabre modeled after a paint scheme used by the SMAMA Service Engineering that was based at McCellan Air Force base located in Sacramento CA. in 1963. This unique paint scheme was used by the Air Force for testing of different avionics and radio gear.

The model is 1/7th scale and it is equipped with a JetCat 160 turbine engine for power. The F-100D has a JR 12x for radio and features all working functions including drag chute, opening canopy, operational slats, flaps, gear, wheel brakes, speed brakes. All surfaces have simulated rivets and panel lines. Rod flew this aircraft in the 2013, U.S. Scale Masters winning first place in the Advanced category.

His Expert Class entry is also a BVM F-100 that is under construction and will have an all aluminum (Flight Metal) finish with even more details that my Team Class entry
