Durafly Spitfire Mk1a

Durafly Spitfire Mk1a

We love Spitfires in all shapes and sizes, and this electric 3S or 4S receiver-ready version just made it to the top of our holiday wish list. It has retracts, flaps, steerable tailwheel and even landing lights and comes with two sets of scale decals. Here’s what HobbyKing had to say about this beautiful warbird:

The Spitfire is THE defining aircraft of WW2, and the Mk1a is without doubt the most poignant of all marques. During the darkest days of the war, the Mk1a Spitfire and the pilots that flew it, came to symbolize the struggle and triumph of a nation over adversity. The struggle was the Battle of Britain, those pilots ‘the few’ and the triumph was the Spitfire!

On the 75th anniversary of that battle Durafly’s Mk1a Spitfire is itself a poignant and fitting tribute to this legendary aircraft and the men who flew it.

Out of the box the Spitfire is painted in authentic 1940 RAF day fighter colors and is provided with a decal sheet choice of two notable Battle of Britain aircraft to choose from. ‘DA-Z’ as flown by Ace Flt Lt Bob Doe and ‘EB-G’, the aircraft of fellow Ace, Flt Lt Eric Lock.  In fact the Durafly Mk1a is intentionally provided as a pre-painted blank canvas, leaving the final decision on its markings completely up to you.  The wonderful scale finish of the Mk1a is enhanced by a wealth of features typical of Durafly’s high standards including faithfully reproduced split flaps, a scale outline, fine surface detail, excellent scale fittings and an operating navigation LED light system.

You will find that the attention to detail that Durafly has included in this model is matched only by its superb performance and grace in the air. With revised retract geometry and a steerable scale tailwheel, ground handling and take offs are improved but it is in the air where the Mk1a really comes into its own, displaying those thoroughbred characteristics that forever sets the Spitfire apart from all other fighter aircraft of the period.

The Durafly Mk1a Spitfire has been designed for either 3S or 4S set-ups (2200-2600 65C 3S/ 2200mah 40C 4S) and  thanks to its superb handling and well-balanced flight characteristics it will instill confidence in those who fly it.  Like the full size aircraft this model is a joy to fly and it will of course perform the full range of aerial manoeuvres expected of a WW2 warbird including of course the iconic Spitfire “victory roll”.

Inspired by the success of their fantastic P-40, Durafly have raised the bar again in producing a model that is quite simply the finest rendition of any Spitfire in this scale.
