Schumacher Products has an interesting idea for a switch. Rather than the traditional switch that we move either on or off, this one is an open Deans connector. Since the electrical circuit is open the current has no place to go, and the radio is off. To complete the circuit, and turn on the radio, they supply a male pin to close the circuit.
The advantage to this type of switch for us helicopter enthusiasts is that we have to deal with at least some vibration in our helicopters, which can contribute to switch failures. To prevent this type of failure the ArmSafe has no moving parts, so once the male connector is in place the radio will stay on until it’s disconnected.
The photo shows the small mounting plate – which is about the size of a quarter. However, a smaller hole about the size of a dime is needed for mounting. Then the positive lead from the battery is routed through the ArmSafe switch – that’s all there is to it. For more information check out their web site at www.SharpRC.com
