DIY Scale RC Aeronca Champ

DIY Scale RC Aeronca Champ

Hey how many of you have flown in the classic Aeronca Champ? If you are over 40 we bet a lot of you have fond memories of that first solo or for the more daring, that first intro to a spin! Wow!!! Coming soon is a construction article for this classic light plane and it is a Pat Tritle design. With a 42 inch span, and lightweight construction, this RC project will be a fun and enjoyable project for anyone wanting to try building their own scale flyer. Weighing in at a scant 11.7 oz. with a 740mAh 2S LiPo battery onboard, all you need is a basic 4-channel radio and mini servos! Watch for this in an upcoming issue of MAN.

  1. Can hardly wait for the Champ build article. Had my first flight in one at the age of 11 and at 16 my first hour of flight instruction. The “Airknocker” is my all time favorite airplane.

  2. Nice plane in a nice size from a great designer! I’d absolutely love to build one of these! 🙂

  3. Why are all of the construction articles you’ve published (“all” being an exageration) over the last 2 years been for such freakin’ tiny, underpowered planes?

  4. Looking forward to this “freakin’ tiny under powered plane. Learned to fly on the full size over 60 years ago. If Pat designed it it will be light and fly well. Good luck to those who find it an interesting build. I will!

  5. Looks like nice plane but I prefer 3S power as I have a bunch of those batteries size from my 450 heli and E-Flite Extra. Still prefer glow or GAS power. Electrics are just now and then for me, or indoor winter flying. MANs biggest issue is the dwindling page count!

  6. That’s misleading, I thought I would find an article and build, maybe even a link to plans certainly not an article preparing me for a future article about the build. Disappointment aside I love Pat’s designs and with the carcass of an E-Flight Champ lying around I am very keen to see the design and article to consider if I can incorporate some of the parts of the ARF into this build. An idea I had with the ARF and possibly with Pat’s Champ is to convert it into a Citabria (one of my favorites) with some minor scale details and changes easily done.
