Fly the Harrier

Fly the Harrier

The harrier is one of the simpler moves to perform, but it is often used as a connector move to many other 3D maneuvers.  In his October Model Airplane News article, Dave Scott has this to say about this maneuver; “The harrier pass is a major corner stone of 3D flying.  A harrier pass consists of flying an airplane at very high angle of attack at a very low airspeed.”   Now you can watch this maneuver be performed by Rocky McCarter in the video below.  Once you have mastered the harrier pass you will see just how versatile it is.

  1. Should probably add something about harrier turns, which are done with rudder also. The wings should stay level in the turn which usually requires OPPOSITE aileron to prevent the inside wing from dropping.
