Top Gun has two classes for Free Flight models. The Duration Class is the most exciting and as is usual, the longest flight award was won by Dave Platt. Here Rich Uravitch who was covering this year’s Top Gun event poses with Dave during a break in the action.

The winner of the craftsmanship award went to Frank Mintz for his Westland Lysander. He also built the rearwin speedster that flew in this years event. His Lysander suffered a motor failure seconds before takeoff (one wind too many) but the speedster flew well and both planes landed safely. Dave Platt’s plane landed almost 1/2 mile away in the middle of W Pipkin drive and had to be retrieved after stopping traffic! I have pics if interested
