IRCHA Friday – my last day

IRCHA Friday – my last day

It doesn’t seem as if I have been here for the better part of 3 days because there has been so much to see, and so many people to talk with. And, unfortunately, this has to be my last day, so I’ll be missing all the weekend fun and excitment of the The One and night flying.

I started out the day talking to Allen Worley of Plant Hobby, the sole US distributor of NovaRossi engines. These engines are made in Italy to the highest standards, and are designed to run at very high speeds – just like a Ferrari. They have also been resized to fit the standard motor mounts for their size. Offered with a soft mounted muffled tuned pipe, these engines represent the utmost in quality and performance for those who want the very best.

Peter Wales was also flying his giant jet powered Aerospatile Lama helicopter. This uses a Jakadosky jet engine, and actually was the 2004 NATS scale winner. Congrats Peter on a great helicopter that you keep flying.

Beside talking to a lot of vendors and factory reps, I also had a chance to talk with Frank Columbia, the Team Manager of AMainHobbies. I asked Frank to help me with my piro-flips. I have been practicing for longer than I care to remember, and just can’t seem to get them right. He told me it took the better part of 2 years for him to really feel comfortable with them, gave me some good pointers, and then gave me a flight demo to bring everything together. However, there is more to say than I can present here, so I’ll save all his good instruction and techniques for a future RotorSpeed helicopter column in MAN.

Well, that’s it for me and IRCHA this year. I can really say it has been a fun, full and tiring 3 days, and I’m thankful for MAN to give me the opportunity to report on this fine event. Now I’ll collect all my pictures and notes, and write a more complete account of this years IRCHA for a future issue of MAN. Also, be sure to check out the IRCHA link on the modelairplanenews.com home page.
