Let’s give thanks!

As we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, our thoughts naturally turn to those items we couldn’t live without. Here’s a top 10 list of things of what the editors and contributors of Model Airplane News and Electric Flight appreciate.

Almost-ready-to-fly planes. Building is fun, but you’ve got to love having a plane flight-ready in a weekend (or just a few hours)!

  1. Accelerator. Sure, CA dries fast, but it’s even faster with this magic spray!
  2. Quadcopters. Big, small, aerobatic, stable, cameras, camera-free … they’re the bees’ knees!
  3. Realistic flight simulators. Finally, a way to keep your skills up during the winter!
  4. EPP foamies. Who doesn’t love a plane that’s nearly indestructible?
  5. Transmitters with mixes already programmed in.
  6. Brushless motors and LiPo batteries. Fly anywhere, anytime!
  7. In-flight telemetry, especially for battery power.
  8. Electric retracts.
  9. And last, but not least … YOU, the best readers on the planet!

  1. Definitely the flight simulators. Outside of that, even with the new technology, there is really no substitute for getting in with an experienced pilot or club, and actually learning how to fly. BTW, I just had my first solo flight without assistance this past Sunday. We were flying slow-flying planes in the indoor arena and gym at Saginaw Valley State University in Saginaw, Michigan. I took my SIG Slow Stik up there, and after a few forgettable flights, I started flying much better, with my last flight being best of all, with the plane coming in for a landing right to me so I didn’t have to go out very far to get my plane. That would not have been possible without having learned some things through experienced instructors, and by spending time on the simulator.

  2. I think have a great staff to work with and a supportive family like mine gives me all the things to be thankful for… Thanks also to everyone for reading MAN and Electric Flight

  3. I am thankful there are still kits and plans out there for builders like myself. I am also thankful to have a place to fly, with a safe but laid back club. I can’t forget the advanced radios and diversity of choices available today.

  4. I am also thankful that I can now get CAD drawings printed out at Staples and Office Max! :^)

  5. LIPO, brushless and 2,4 GHZ are great!
