Outnumbering the planes and people here at Top Gun are these March flies, aka “lovebugs.” According to an internet source, lovebugs are actually beneficial to the Gulf Coast, where theymostly live, because as larvae they eat other detrimental insects and as adults eat only nectar. And although they don’t sting or bite, they are hugely annoying because they swarm by the hundreds and fly into and on you and on your food, on the planes … you name it. They don’t seem to care when you swat them, and just lazily bounce into everything. And, yes, they fly around connected to each other, just like they are in the photo. Ugh.
