New for Premium Members — The Story of the 345th Bomber Group

The 345th Bomber Group (BG) was first activated at Columbia Army Air Base, South Carolina, in November 1942 and was christened the “Air Apaches.” As a B-25 bomber group, it was broken into four squadrons: the 498th, known as the “Falcons”; the 499th, “Bats Outa Hell”; the 500th, “Rough Raiders”; and the 501st, the “Black Panthers.” The 345th BG was sent to the Southwest Pacific Theater in 1943 and began flying missions from Port Moresby, New Guinea, and earned the recognition of the first Air Force Combat Group sent to the Pacific in World War II.

  1. Why should I sign up To be a premium member when it should be included in your magazine rates because u pay enough for that tiny thin magazine that I can read in a night because if the mag gets any thinner there will be no use buying it and in fact at the rate it’s going I will drop out as soon as my subscription is finished

  2. Love the Magazine! If it is thin, then great because what is in it is good. I do not have spare time for garbage, so keep up the good job. My model Plane hobby keeps me going at the age of 83 and many good ideas and suggested products come from your magazine. A great supplement to the AMA magazine.
