It’s not very often I have a lot to say about the main gear of a helicopter, but this one is special and of a unique design that we have not seen in the past. The Raptor 90 uses a helical main gear that has several features. First of all it’s made of Delrin, which is extremely strong and wears like steel, and second it’s very thick (a full 5/8 inch), and third it uses a helical gear design that makes the teeth even longer (extending them to 3/4 inch) to provide more surface area, and fourth this design allows the drive shaft to blend into the main gear to transfer torque more efficiently.
