Road to Top Gun — Frank Migliaccio — P-47 Thunderbolt Razorback

Frank Migliaccio from Ladera Ranch, CA, is a member of the Scale Squadron of Southern California and the PVMAC (Pomona Valley Model Airplane Club, and he’s all pumped up to compete at the 2015 Top Gun event.  His primary plane is the Top Flite giant scale  P-47 he converted to the Razorback version. He finished the Thunderbolt in fiberglass and resin, and painted it in Luftwaffe “captured colors”.

The model is powered by a Desert Aircraft DA50R gas engine and it features Robart pneumatic retracts and a Sullivan Skywriter smoke system. Frank is using a Futaba 14SG radio system and says that the model is the easiest flying Warbird he’s ever had! His second airplane is a  FW190-A8 built from a Meister Scale  Platinum kit which is powered by a DLE 120.

Frank comments: “I’ve been primarily flying large warbirds for over 2 years but have been flying RC since the 1980s (my first plane was a “Wanderer” slope glider in Palos Verdes, CA.  I’m a big fan of the Top Flite Giant Scale ARFs.  I typically peel, glass, and repaint them with color schemes you don’t see too often. I’ve competed in U.S. Scale Masters events and I’m a big fan of the Warbird events here on the West Coast, but got this first time opportunity to come to Top Gun 2015. For me it’s a dream come true to come all the way to Florida and fly with the “big boys”.  The builds I see in the articles in MAN are what have inspired me!”
