The Road to Top Gun 2012 — Scale RC Aviation at its Best! — Updated

Each year, Model Airplane News gives its readers and web visitors a sneak peek at some of the amazing airplanes that will be competing at the annual Top Gun Scale Invitational. Hosted each year by it creator, Frank Tiano, the 2012 Top Gun event will again be held at the Paradise Field near Lakeland Linder Airport in Lakeland, FL. To help keep stirring up the excitement for the best scale events in the world, this webpage will remain an open book so we include additional information and photos from the competitors as we receive it. You’ll be the first to see these amazing planes and the pilots/builders that will compete in 2012.

The event is a few months away so keep coming back to see who has been added. If you would like to have information of your own Top Gun plane added, please contact us at man@airage.com or leave a comment below.

Here are some of the pilots/builders and their planes!

The father of Top Gun Frank Tiano, never ceases to amaze! Last year Frank developed a truly amazing almost 1/3-scale (1/3.4) P-47 Thunderbolt powered by a massive RCS 400cc radial engine. With a wingspan of 12 feet and a flying weight of almost 123 pounds, Franks “Wicked Wabbit” sets a new standard for Giant Scale. In Fact several monster Thunderbolts projects are in the works.

Frank says, “If you are a builder, and have some time on your hands, it makes a very worthwhile project. We stuffed a ZDZ 420 in the nose of Brian O’Meara’s bird and it is a freaking Animal! For more details on price and availability, contact the dude that is making the custom kits, John Rivrud at Scale RC All Composite.” John@rcscaleallcomposite.com
