Throw Back Thursday — Nick Ziroli and his Spirit of St. Louis

TBT: what better model to show off on this date, than the Spirit of Saint Louis?! This one of course, by the Master Nick Ziroli Sr. This photo was taken at the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in NY where the museum staff is also building a full size replica of the Ryan NYP classic.

Today, May 21, in 1927, Charles Lindbergh completed the first nonstop solo transatlantic flight in the Ryan NYP “Spirit of St. Louis.”

  1. That is so ‘COOL’!

  2. One of the GREATS of the hobby! Thank you Nick Ziroli for your wonderful kits!!

  3. I was younger when I saw the Spirit fly at Rhinebeck, Did it have a recording in it (Speaker and etc.) that “yelled” “which way to Ireland”?

    1. Why yes indeed, Nick actually recorded the audio from the famous movie, and had it burned onto a PC board. With a load speaker, you could hear it when he flew overhead and pulled the throttle back.

  4. Tom, Thanks for recalling wonderful memories. This was a great model.

  5. Awesome plane! Will Nick be “kitting” a model of the Spirit? Or is it already available?
