Video Test Flight — 1/3-scale Fokker Triplane

Video Test Flight — 1/3-scale Fokker Triplane

After a 10 month Build-along and 500 man-hours of effort, Model Airplane News editor Gerry Yarrish had a very successful test flight day at the flying field. The giant scale Fokker triplane is built from a Balsa USA kit, and the completed model is equipped with a Zenoah GT 80 gas engine, a DX18 transmitter from Spektrum and dual Spektrum receivers, (one in the wing and one in the fuselage.) There are many “build-Along” posts on the MAN website, showing the construction details from the very first day of assembly all the way to  painting, detailing and final assembly. Be sure to watch for the December 2013 issue of MAN in which the process and techniques for painting the triplane are featured.

Special thanks to the Long Island Sky Hawks and Mike Gross Sr. for helping with the test flying and trimming of this impressive WW1 Icon.

Stay tuned, there will be more techniques shown on the weathering of the Triplane to make it look more realistic and take away that freshly painted look!
