Wild Thing 40

Wild Thing 40

Tom Knoblauch of San Antonio, TX, writes, “Here is a picture of my second Wild Thing 40 for the Great Builders Bash. It is powered by an O.S. .32 w/ a 9×6 APC prop and Tru-Turn spinner. Guidance is via a Futaba 8U, standard servos. Covering is Monocote in fluorescent pink and fluorescent green. The bottom of the wing has a large fluorescent green stripe running span wise. You may have noticed that I have changed the airfoil to one with a double reflex to enhance the low speed flight. Slow speed flight is truly wild. I have set up the ailerons to also act as flaps although the model really doesn’t need them. The build was straightforward and would be good for a first or second time builder. It flies great, can perform most maneuvers but with the .32 is a little under-powered. An O.S. .46 or .55 would make it awesome, to say the least. I would recommend it for a third airplane to fly. I have been thinking of scaling it up to fit a 50cc gas motor. Maybe up to a 75-inch span. And I will stick with the original airfoil. Love your magazine. You always have articles and info for all phases of our sport.”
