A look at a plane that took years to complete and three different builders, but in the end it was well worth the wait. This outstanding scale Staggerwing started as a cut balsa kit from the Aeroplane Factory which was made from Ziroli plans. The plane is large with a wingspan of 86-inches and an all up weigh of 35 pounds. The Staggerwing started on the building board of Tom Carter, then moved over for assembly to Sam Wight and finally the complete framework landed in the scale expert hands of Tim Cardin. Tim took this framework and did the covering and detail work you see here.
Tim’s goal was to finish the stagger wing to scale so that he can compete with it in the Masters Scale Contest. He kept the documentation and material that Sam had provided and stuck to the original project plan. Scale details include a well done cockpit, retracts and navigation lights that can be seen during daylight hours.
