RC Helipad

RC Helipad

Mark Smith is a Vario Team Pilot and Dealer from Charlotte, North Carolina. He brought his fun-scale Vario Turbine Cobra to the Greensboro Aeromodelers 2022 Warbirds and Classics event. Even more fun, Mark conceived and built a remote controlled helipad that he uses to transport his helis from his tent to the flightline and back. This is the first flight of the Cobra off the helipad, and the third overall.

The 48 x 48-inch helipad uses two wheelchair motors, a 60-amp motor controller and an RC car radio for guidance. It has a 300 pound capacity! The helipad also has lights and a beeper that sounds while it is in motion.

Mark says he built it for two reasons: He was tired of carrying his 35-60 pound helicopters around, and it’s super cool!
